 Another winter Olympics hopeful!

Resort in the winter

Yastrebets cafe at the summit ~take the gondola to it. Summer or winter!

The vast Lake Iskar is 23km long! Just a few minutes from "Kozle". Great for fishing, sailing, boating, sightseeing.

The Rila Monastery

Superb murals and art are a feature of the Monastery~a world heritage site

King Ferdinand's Hunting Palace, Borovets,below.

Samokov town is  centre  left and the start of vast Iskar lake is seen near to the top of the photo. Below is a MIG jet fighter displayed in the centre of a nearby town.

In the opinion of Janice Robinson, the wine critic, the Bessa Valley vinyard produces world class wines. She's absolutely right!Enjoy a tour and wine tasting.  1 1/2 hrs drive.

Feed the geese by all means............

...but even we draw the line at feeding the local Eagle

 Stunning views

The Storks are wonderful. The young spend weeks hovering above the 'nest' practising for the day when finally the leave the parents. They build anywhere they like and the nest also is host to sparrows who cheekily occupy the sides.

Watersports available on the deserted and huge Iskar lake.

This is the local swimming pool a few minutes from "Kozle"

Organic fruit and vedge from the local market

Above; new lifts are constantly being added as the resort increases its number and variety of runs. A new 8 person gondola from Samokov to the resort is due to be in place by the 2008 ski season.

The venues for picnics are quite simply endless. To the right is a favourite of ours. A deserted paradise in the summer.

Winter Activities

  • The Resort of Borovets has an alpine feel to it. It is being developed tastefully and has none of the concrete jungle gold rush developments of newer resorts.Travelling time from airport to "Kozle" is less than one hour. Travelling time to the resort from "Kozle"is around 15minutes. There are plenty of chair & drag lifts as well as gondolas  to ensure maximum play and minimum queuing. It's the oldest, biggest and unquestionably the best of the Bulgarian resorts  offering superb facilities and mega night life.
  • Skiing, snowboarding sledging
  • **NEW ICE SKATING RINK JUST OPENED IN SAMOKOV~ten minutes away!
  • Rila monastery
  • Plovdiv old Roman town

There are many runs on offer catering for predominantly intermediate skiiers as well as a few black and easy blue runs. The snowboarding superb. Nine drag liftssingle and four person chair lifts and a gondola ensure that queuing is minimised. The same cannot be said of the new winter resorts that have an unenviable reputation for inadequate facilities and over development. they are all an additional one and a half hours drive away as well. Bansko is 2 1/2hrs from the airport and a concrete jungle. Why bother?

Summer Activities

Turn left out of the gate and follow the stream up through the valley for mile after mile of  uninterrupted scenic beauty offering spectaculer picnic opportunities. Turn right and you're a few minutes stroll from the village centre where a few welcoming bars await you. A large glass of wine and a lager will set you back 40p or .65 Euro's in total! A G&T is about the same. Bulgaria is organic.the wildlife is abundant and is considered to be one of Europes finest countries for bird watching.
